DOVER, Del. (AP) - Legislative budget writers are continuing their review of budget requests for one of Delaware's biggest government agencies, the Department of Health and Social Services.
Wednesday's agenda includes a discussion of the Medicaid and medical assistance programs, which account for more than half of the entire department's budget.
One concern for lawmakers is how to cut down on fraud and waste in the Medicaid program, which costs state taxpayers about $700 million a year.
DHSS officials missed an Oct. 31 deadline for hiring an outside contractor to begin a $500,000 pilot program aimed at fighting Medicaid fraud, abuse and waste. But department officials say they hope to finalize a contract for the program in the next few days.
A report on projected cost savings from the program is due April 30.
