Delaware Law Enforcement Seeks Equipment Grant

Police Car, 123rf

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Law enforcement agencies from across Delaware are asking a state panel to approve grant applications for a variety of equipment upgrades and programs.

The requests include $50,000 for the New Castle County Police Department to purchase 50 wearable cameras for patrol officers, $127,000 in overtime funds for the Wilmington police department's effort to reduce violent crime, and $15,000 for the Dover Police Department to buy sniper rifles.

The Fund to Combat Violent Crime Committee was to meet Wednesday in Dover to consider the applications.

The fund was established by a law enacted last year that levied a new $15 penalty on people convicted of crimes or offenses. Money from the penalties is shared by the Department of Safety and Homeland Security and local law enforcement agencies.
