Delaware Gears Up to Mark 100th Anniversary of Harriet Tubman's Death

historical picture

This year marks the 100 anniversary of Harriet Tubman’s death.

And Governor Jack Markell will present a proclamation at the Old State House for Harriet Tubman on March 1st.

It is part of ten days that will lead up to the anniversary on March 10th.

Events during that time include two separate walks in Camden and relays at the Wilmington Christina Riverwalk.

Both were stops on the Underground Railroad that led slaves out of the south before the Civil War.

WDEL radio also reports that the Department of Transportation will be providing a plan to help preserve, enhance and manage the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway.
