Delaware could have a national park just in time for next year’s 375th anniversary of the arrival of settles from Sweden.
Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.)has been pushing the legislation in Congress for the last ten years with Delaware being the only state without a national park.
The Delaware Democrat says he expects the measure to be bundled with some non-controversial legislation to gain board support for the park.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that there is some resistance to the plan coming from congressional members who cite the $7 billion to $9 billion backlog of maintenance project at the nation’s current 400 existing parks.
The proposed sites to receive the park designation range from Fort Christina and Holy Trinity Church in Wilmington to the Green in Dover and the Old New Castle Court House.
