Delaware Bayshore Initiative Will Attract Tourists

SLAUGHTER BEACH, Del. (AP) - State officials say conserving and protecting the coastline hugging the Delaware Bay can spawn new recreational, tourist and economic opportunities while preserving important natural habitat.

U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar joined Gov. Jack Markell and other officials on Tuesday to mark the launch of the Delaware Bayshore Initiative.

The initiative is a partnership including the state and federal governments, non-governmental organizations and bayshore communities to reinforce efforts to conserve the region's ecological integrity while increasing recreational opportunities and tourism.

The project is among 101 conservation efforts identified in all 50 states as part of the federal government's Great Outdoors Initiative.
