DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware officials say they're ready for open enrollment to begin in the state's new health insurance exchange.
But officials acknowledge that glitches are likely as a key component of the federal health reform law is launched Tuesday.
Among other things, not all of the 68 marketplace guides being hired to help people learn about and enroll in the health care exchange will be in place when open enrollment begins.
Officials also note that small businesses won't be able to enroll online in the new health marketplace in Delaware and many other states until November.
Officials expect to enroll as many as 35,000 of the 90,000 currently uninsured Delawareans through the health insurance exchange. The exchange includes subsidies for people with incomes up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level.
Maryland
BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland officials are gathering at Health Care for the Homeless to commemorate the expansion of Medicaid.
Federal, state and local officials will be at Health Care for the Homeless on Tuesday, as Maryland opens its online insurance exchange as a part of health care reform.
About 70 percent of patients at the Baltimore facility currently lack comprehensive health insurance.
Kevin Lindamood, president and CEO of Health Care for the Homeless, says the expansion will enhance the facility’s ability to help vulnerable people.
Rep. John Sarbanes, D-Md., is scheduled to attend the event, as well as state Sen. Verna Jones-Rodwell and Del. Mary Washington.
