Delaware AG: Trooper Shooting Justified

Delaware law enforcement

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - The Delaware attorney general's office says two state troopers were justified in using deadly force against an armed robbery suspect who led officers on a high-speed pursuit in 2014 in Claymont.

In a report issued Monday, authorities said Corporals William Yeldell and David Hudak were justified in shooting at William McNulty after he refused to surrender, used his stolen vehicle to try to ram their cruisers, and accelerated in reverse toward them.

McNulty was a suspect in robberies earlier that day at an ATM and a convenience store.

After investigators identified McNulty as a suspect, a trooper spoke to him by phone and urged him to turn himself in, but McNulty reportedly responded that he was not going back to jail.
