Delaware AG Delays Investigation Into Sussex Inmate Work Release Program

Delaware State Attorney General Beau Biden is going to wait for an internal probe by the Delaware Department of Correction into an inmate day-labor program that was abruptly shut down in Sussex County.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that outraged Republican state representatives Greg Lavelle and Deborah Hudson who called for an independent investigation.

John Fluharty, executive director of the state Republican Party, charged that the Democrats were “clearly kicking the can down the road hoping nobody will be held accountable until after the election.”

The paper said there was no immediate response from the state Justice Department.

The News Journal investigation in June found there was a staggering lack of documentation for the day-labor program at the Sussex County Work Release Center.

That included the whereabouts of prisoners who went out as day-laborers for more than two decades.
