David Pierce is out as warden of the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in the aftermath of the inmate uprising that left one officer dead.

The Wilmington News Journal reports the department said that Pierce has been reassigned but could not provide any further information due to personnel confidentiality.

The paper notes there was no public announcement about Pierce’s departure.

He went to work for the Department of Correction in 1996 and was promoted to warden in August of 2013.

Deputy Warden Phil Parker has taken over as acting warden.
