Culver Sworn In, Hogan Vows to Fight PMT

Don Rush

Bob Culver was sworn in yesterday as the second Wicomico County Executive.

He was joined by Governor Elect Larry Hogan for a ceremony at Wor-Wic Community College.

During his remarks, Culver He tried to reach out to all voters and had these cautious words for his supporters.

“Now just a few words for those who want to see change happen. I’ve heard it and I understand it. A few changes can be made quickly. Some will be. Some will require more in depth understanding. Change won’t be made for the sake of change.”

However, Culver said he would no longer allow county employees to get their birthdays off with pay.

In addition, he said, he would curb the number of county-owned vehicles that employees would be able to take home.

Meanwhile, during the swearing in ceremony for Culver Governor Elect Larry Hogan had a message for Eastern Shore farmers that got a round of applause.

“We’re going to fight against these phosphorous management regulations that are being pushed at the mid-night hour on the way out the door by this current administration. And we’re going to work across the aisle with Democrats and Republicans and make sure that we stop these things from happening.”

Hogan also reassured those in attendance that the Eastern Shore would now have a seat at the table and would be well represented in Annapolis.

“You will have a governor with a sympathetic ear about the issues and concerns of the people here. You’ll have a seat at the table. And you’ll have a tireless advocate fighting on your behalf in Annapolis."

One loss for the Lower Shore this election found that the Eastern Shore  will not have someone chairing the Appropriations Committee in the House of Delegates after the defeat of Democrat Norm Conway by Republican Carl Anderton.

He is being replaced by a Maggie McIntosh, a Democrat from Baltimore.
