Culver Drops Effort to Provide Territory for Breakaway Fire Company

Wicomico County Executive Bob Culver says he has given up effort to create a new fire territory for the breakaway volunteer fire company.

He told the Salisbury Daily Times all work has been stopped.

Previously Culver had told his emergency services director David Shipley to move ahead with giving the breakaway volunteer fire company territory outside of Salisbury in the Route 13 bypass area.

His decision to end his efforts followed a fiery council meeting. Council members sited the emergency services agreement with the city that did not include carving out such a territory.

Despite Culver’s decision Cory Polidore Chief of Station 13 said his members do have backup plans.

He added that his was about “continuing public service”.

The volunteer fire company left the Salisbury Fire Department when the city declined to commit itself to voluntary mediation over a staffing dispute.
