Courts Could See Principal Dispute in Somerset County

school board website

The Somerset County Board of Education could go to court to get the state opinion that the transfer of principal William Johnson from Washington High School to the Promise Academy was arbitrary and unreasonable.

The board has asked the state to reconsider its decision.

The school district’s attorney Fulton Jeffers told the Salisbury Daily Times that the issue could wind up in circuit court.

As for Johnson, Jeffers says,  he will stay at the alternative school for the moment.

In its opinion the state said that Johnson was caught up in an atmosphere “ruled by emotion rather than reason.”

Johnson was transferred in the midst of tense relationship between the school board and former Superintendent Marjorie Miles who quit two years before her 4 year contract was up.

The school board argues that situation was resolved amicably.
