Court Stay in Delaware Execution of Gary Ploof

Delaware Department of Correction

The execution of 49 year old Gary Ploof set for February 4th was stayed by a Delaware Superior Court judge last week while he appeals his conviction for killing his 29 year old wife in 2001.

WBOC reports that public defenders asked that the execution be delayed pending a federal habeas corpus appeal that was filed earlier this year.

A divided Delaware State Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of the former Dover Air force Base sergeant.

Ploof was convicted of shooting his wife Heidi in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Dover.
