BALTIMORE (AP) - A federal judge has lifted a stay on his ruling that a portion of Maryland's gun permit law is unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Benson Legg's decision late Monday means that in two weeks Maryland residents will be able to carry handguns without having to show a "good and substantial reason."
After a review, Legg found that the state has not established that the public interest weighs in favor of a stay.
The Maryland attorney general's office has filed a notice on plans to appeal the March ruling.
The case was brought by the Second Amendment Foundation in 2010.
