Contaminated Wells In Another Wicomico County Neighborhood

Don Rush

The Wicomico County community of Doe Run near Salisbury has been found to have contaminated wells.

Health Department officials say 8 of them contained low levels of 1.2 dichloropropane.

This is the second contamination incident but officials say it is not connected to the TCE that was found in the Morris Mill community.

WBOC reports that 19 homes were tested most of them in Doe run with 8 coming up positive.

The county health department is set to test more wells in the neighborhood.

So far, there is no source for the chemical.

The compound is used as an industrial solvent to make other chemical…such as paint varnishes as well as soil fumigant.

Health officials say that long-term exposure to much higher levels can result in health problems but they believe these levels are low enough not to cause any health issues.

Nonetheless Mike Diller on Jackson Road just outside the subdivision told the station that he would be getting a whole house water filter…to be installed in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime, he’s got some bottle water coming to tide him over.
