Collective Bargaining Rights Effort for Ocean City Workers Picks Up Steam

There is a new headquarters in Ocean City.

It’s located at the Food Lion shopping center on 118th Street.

And it is for a group that is seeking to get collective bargaining rights for the resort’s municipal workers.

They call themselves the Ocean City Employee Coalition.

There’s no banner yet but posters have been taped to the front windows asking for public support.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that in recent months a number of employees have attended meetings to ask the Ocean City Council to grant the general employees collective bargaining rights like the town’s police and firefighters.

The City Council has not acted yet so the group is now gathering signatures for a petition.

Gregory Demarco a long time municipal employee and resort property owner told the paper that so far people have been overwhelmingly supportive.

The Maryland Classified Employees Association is supporting the effort.
