NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A college football coach is defending players who wore Black Lives Matter T-shirts as they warmed up for a recent game.
Old Dominion University Monarchs coach Bobby Wilder told the Virginian-PilotMonday that he supports the players "100 percent in wanting to do that."
The Monarchs on Saturday hosted the Roadrunners from the University of Texas-San Antonio. Photos of the shirts emerged on social media.
Wilder said the Black Lives Matter movement resonates with a number of his players. And although some people claim the movement incites hatred against police, the coach said his players support police officers as well as the military.
The team's next game is at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, not far from the scene of protests over a recent police shooting.
