Co-ops Ask Customers to Limit Eletricity Use

Don Rush

Delaware Electric Cooperative and Choptank Electric Cooperative want their customers to voluntarily limit energy use between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

With the temperatures expected to be in the lower 80’s, the co-ops say that they expect electrical usage will peak during those hours.

And they expect to be buying extra power from the market at a premium price.

During peak demand the co-ops can pay up to a $1 per kilowatt-hour which is passed on to the customer.

So, they want consumers to turn off all unnecessary lights and appliances.

They are also asking that major appliances like dishwashers, washing machines and clothes dryers be used after those hours and to put off any hot water usage.
