Cleanup at Mirror Lake in Dover Gets Underway

sedimite.com

The cleanup of 3.5 acre Mirror Lake in downtown Dover officially got underway yesterday afternoon to deal with decades of chemical contamination, storm water runoff and sedimentation problems.

A smaller part of the cleanup will stabilize the tanks to prevent erosion and the undercutting of the lake’s banks.

A larger part will fix the contamination problem.

Richard Greene, a scientist with the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, told WBOC that pellets of activated carbon, sand and clay will be used in the project.

He said this is the first time that Sedimite has been used on this scale anywhere in the country.

Actual work began on the $1 million project on October 1st funded mainly with state funds.
