REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) – A Rehoboth Beach church is working to build a permanent skate park for skateboarders.

The Wilmington News Journal reports the board of trustees of Epworth United Methodist Church has approved plans to build a concrete bowl and other obstacles to replace plywood skate ramps that skaters have used since 2008 in the church’s parking lot.

Susan Selph, who coordinated fundraising for the project, says more than $40,000 of the $50,000 needed to build a permanent skate park has been raised. Local businesses and families contributed most of the money. Some material and equipment is being donated to reduce the cost.

Building the new skate park will take about eight weeks. Selph says weather conditions may determine how quickly the project can be completed, though.
