assateagueisland.com

The Chincoteague Town Council has voted unanimously to get a legal opinion before it signs onto an agreement with federal agencies.

It involves a study that would look at a plan to move the Assateague recreational beach further north.

The agreement includes the a number of federal and state agencies ranging from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and Accomack County.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that a discussion arose in the town council with some having trouble with the wording of the agreement while others such as Mayor Jack Tarr telling residents it would give Chincoteague a seat at the table.
