Cheswold Annexation Plans Postponed

Noble's Pond Website

The Cheswold Town Council has decided to put off an annexation plan that has residents at the nearby Noble’s Pond retirement community along with some elected officials up in arms.

The annexation included adding 245 acres of farmland part of which could be developed into townhomes and commercial retail.

Another portion of the parcel would be open space next to the retirement community.

The town council could reconsider the annexation at its September 8th meeting that would provide for a special election.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that with the exclusion of existing homes the only two voters would be owners of the Noble Pond’s retirement community and the farmland.

The paper reports that the developer of the retirement community has said it was considering the development because it had always been part of the existing comprehensive plan.
