The Center for Biological Diversity has found that the Chesapeake Marshlands National Wildlife Refuge Complex ranked fifth for the most chemicals used for agriculture.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that is according to analysis based on federal records.

The Chesapeake Marshlands consist of four refuges in Maryland and Virginia.

The Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in southern Dorchester County and the Eastern Neck Refuge in Kent County holds the largest share of the 16-thousand pounds of pesticides used in the Chesapeake Marshlands in 2016.

The Daily Times reports that breaks down to 78-hundred for Blackwater and 74-hundred pounds for Eastern Neck.

The environmental group urges a reduction in the amount of dangerous pesticides used in the area.
