If you’re planning to use the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel on Virginia’s Eastern Shore it’s going to cost you.
The bridge commission has approved a proposed 10 percent hike in toll fees starting in January of next year and another 10 percent every five years.
The increase is to cover the construction costs of a parallel tunnel at the Thimble Shoals as early as July of 2015.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the resolution includes higher auto tolls on one-way trips during the peak tourism period from May through September.
Round trip drivers who return within 24 hours – whether peak hours or not -- would see a toll increase of $1 per round trip while those making one-way or return trips outside the 24-hour period would see hikes of up to $3 each way.
In addition most commercial vehicles classes would see tolls go up by roughly 10 percent next January.
