Cargo Containers Find Home on Assateague Island

Chesapeake Container Systems website

Three 18-thousand pound shipping containers have found a home on Assateague Island.

The 640 square foot containers are providing space for Assateague Outfitters on the bay side of the island.

It’s a project carried out by the Maryland Coastal Bays Program and Super Fun Eco tours.

The containers will provide room for cafes, office space and even homes.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the Assateague Outfitters building will use one 40-foot by 8-foot container for their main retail area with two 20-foot by 8-foot containers for storage.

Chesapeake Container Systems president Scott Thielemann told the paper that this is a will be a much less expense and more eco-friendly option for such businesses.
