Car Hits Train in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) - Police say a car ran into a freight train in Georgetown but that no one was injured.

Delaware State Police say a 79-car Norfolk-Southern train headed north was crossing a roadway when a car slammed into the wheels of a train car Thursday night. The car spun and hit a telephone pole, and the train stopped without derailment.

Police say nobody on the train nor the 45-year-old driver of the car were injured. Police say charges are pending against the driver.

A photo of the scene shows that the car was destroyed in the crash. Its front and back ends are both smashed in, as is the windshield. It also appears that the telephone pole landed on the roof of the car.
