NEWARK, Del. (AP) - New Castle County police say a 23-year-old man lost control of his car while texting, causing the vehicle to leave the road and ram into a house.

Officers were dispatched to Archer Circle in Woodland Trails about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday in response to a 911 call.

Police say investigators determined that the 23-year-old driver, whose name was not released, was texing on his phone, missed a turn, and lost control of the vehicle, which rammed into the rear of a home.

The home was not occupied at the time, but a county building Inspector deemed it uninhabitable.  The Delaware Red Cross was contacted to offer assistance to the home owner.

The driver was cited for using an electronic communication device while operating a motor vehicle and inattentive driving.
