Cabrera Death Sentence Overturned

Delaware Law Enforcement

A Delaware Superior Court has overturned the death sentence for Luis Cabrera in the execution-style shooting of two men twenty years ago.

Judge Andrea Rocanelli said that he had been provided ineffective counsel during the sentencing phase.

However, the judge let stand Cabrera’s murder conviction.

Since 2001 Cabrera and his accomplice Luis Reyes have been death row inmates after being convicted of the 1996 killings.

The Delaware Attorney General’s office has not yet said whether it will appeal the decision.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that there are now 14 people on Delaware’s death row with the decision in Cabrera’s case.
