Brandywine Voters Approve Tax Hike for School District

CLAYMONT, Del. (AP) - A referendum to increase boost school reserves and funding for school improvements has been approved in the Brandywine School District.

The referendum passed Wednesday with 4,814 in favor and 4,126 votes against the tax increase. Officials say taxes would increase by 27 cents per $100 of assessed value, or about $188 a year.

District officials say the money will go toward advancing educational goals, facility maintenance and helping restore the reserve fund.

Supporters say that without the tax increase, 40-50 district employee positions would have to be cut.
