Body of Missing Suffolk Man Found After Hurricane Matthew

SUFFOLK, Va. (AP) - Crews have recovered the body of a Suffolk man who went missing on his way to work amid Hurricane Matthew.

City officials said in a news release that 53-year-old Derek Cason's body was found Wednesday in the water near Constant's Wharf.

Authorities say Cason was last seen Sunday morning after getting dropped off not far from the McDonald's where he worked.

Investigators believe Cason had been walking along a road in the area when he was swept away in heavy tidal flooding caused by the hurricane.

Rescue crews spent the following days searching for him.

Cason's sister, Delicia Barber, said Tuesday that her brother was a dedicated man who was intent on making it to his job early Sunday in spite of the storm.
