Blevins Quits Animal Welfare Post After Five Months

official photo

The Delaware state animal welfare director has quit.

Former State Senator Patricia Blevins left after only being on the job for five months.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that a statement was issued by Public Health director Karyl Rattay which said that Blevins retired to have more time with her family.

The Elsmere Democrat lost her reelection bid in November and was appointed to oversee the Office of Animal Welfare.

Blevins was instrumental in creating the office.

And the state GOP lawmakers were critical of her taking the top job seen as political cronyism.

The News Journal reports that Public Health Director Rattay dismissed suggestions that the appointment was favoritism.
