Black Clergy Back Same Sex Marriage in Maryland Referendum

Sep 21, 2012

In Washington D-C African American clergy held a news conference…to dispel they said the myth that black ministers opposed same sex marriage.

About a dozen gathered around the Reverend Al Sharpton to express their support for the same-sex referendum on Maryland’s November ballot.

The Reverend Delman Coates is senior pastor of the Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton.

He said he believed the people do not have the right to impose their personal religious beliefs on others when it came to public policy.
