Property owners in Berlin could see a 5 cent cut in their tax rates under the budget proposed by Mayor Gee Williams.
He wants to cut the tax rate from 73 cents to 68 cents per $100 of assessed property value.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the reduction would mean around $100 less in property taxes for the average Berlin resident.
Williams says the proposed cut was possible for the third year in a row because the town has a budget surplus of more than a half-a-million dollars.
The cut is expected to reduce town revenues by $102-thousand with the $13.3 million budget expected to be two percent lower than last year.
