Brain cancer took the life of 46 year old Beau Biden.
The Vice President’s son was taken to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center last month but at the time there was no word on why he was being treated.
The former Delaware Attorney General and rising political star in the Democratic Party had been diagnosed with brain cancer two years ago.
He also suffered a mild stroke in 2010.
Biden decided against a third term as Attorney General setting his sights on the governorship next year.
Reactions poured in at the news of his death.
Governor Jack Markell called Biden a man in tune with people and passionate about public service.
Senator Chris Coons noted that Biden never shied away from doing the right thing and served his country and community with honor.
Delaware’s Senior Senator Tom Carper recalled the affection of the man as they once walked during a Return Day Parade while Representative John Carney said that Biden had a generous spirit.
