After two accidents within the last few days acting Executive Secretary for the Maryland Transportation Authority Bruce Gartner is reassuring motorists that the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is not dangerous.

But he did want to remind drivers that they should use caution and abide by the speed limits and their surroundings.

Triple A Mid-Atlantic has asked the National Safety Transportation Board to look into the strength of the railings on the bridge after a car plunged into the water.

Kathleen Lavina told WBOC that the recent accidents do make her nervous about the bridge which she once crossed ten times a week before she retired.

Gartner said the Authority is carrying out an investigation into how much longer the bridge will stay in service before a replacement is considered.
