Battle of the Beach Umbrellas

umbrella, Petr Kratochvil

Those who rent space on the Ocean City shore to sell beach umbrellas are calling for tighter restrictions aimed Patrick McLaughlin.

Patti Murrell and other owners complained that he is out bidding them.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that McLaughlin got into the beach rentals around 10 years ago to hedge his photography business.

Murrell says she and other owners want to go back to limiting the percentage of parcel ownership to one third.

Others say they fear that McLaughlin will hit the 50 percent mark if he gets four more parcels.
