Art Daniels, The Oldest Skipjack Captain

Credit Don Rush
Skipjacks on the Water

The Skipjack has become an icon of the Chesapeake Bay where once hundreds plied the waters looking for oysters and crabs. Now there are only a dozen or so left. Daddy Art Daniels is the oldest of the captains these days with his vessel "The City of Crisfield." Delmarva Public Radio's Don Rush spoke with him just before this year's race off Deal Island about his life on the water.

Don Rush is the News Director at Delmarva Public Media. An award-winning journalist, Don reports major local issues of the day, from sea level rise, to urban development, to the changing demographics of Delmarva.
