Art Daniels: A Last Interview

He was known as Daddy Art.

And he captained the Skipjack “The City of Crisfield”.

This week Art Daniels died at home at the age of 95.

His grandson Lee Daniels told the Salisbury Daily Times that his grandfather had a good run.

He often won the annual Deal Island Skipjack Race.

Photographer Jay Fleming told the newspaper that Daniels helped inspire his book “Working the Water” which features watermen of the Chesapeake Bay.

City of Crisfield

The “City of Crisfield” has been undergoing restoration which is expected to coast at least $200-thousand.

And this year the Annual Skipjack races at Deal Island with be sailing without his beloved “City of Crisfield” and the man who was her captain.

Delmarva Public Radio spoke with Daniels at a captain's dinner for the Annual Deal Island Skipjack Races in 2015.
