Governor John Carney has called on the Department of Education to draw up a state model anti-discrimination policy for the schools in Delaware.

WBOC reports that among other things the draft that is now available for public comment would allow students to join sports based on their gender identity.

The television station reports that it calls for school districts and charter schools to work with student and their families in providing access to locker rooms and bathrooms based on their gender identity.

Salvatore Seeley with CAMP Rehoboth told WBOC that the regulations would protect the gender identity or expression of the students.

But state Representative Ruth Briggs King said she had some concerns about that public meetings on the new regulations took place when man parents could not attend.
