Anne Arundel County Police Chief to Resign

Anne Arundel County Website

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Anne Arundel County's police chief has announced that he will resign Dec. 1 after less than two years on the job.

In a statement Tuesday, police Chief Kevin Davis says he's resigning after the newly elected county executive, Steve Schuh, told him that he'd be "heading in a different direction."

Davis' lengthy statement mentioned the how the county struggled in recent years "when political misdeeds contaminated its waters" and says his administration was focused on positive changes for the future.

He quoted a Frank Zappa song, saying "without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible," but says he respects Schuh's decision to form his own leadership team.

The county executive's office did not immediately return a call for comment Tuesday.

Schuh was elected Nov. 4.
