Anne Arundel County Executive Must Stand Trial

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A judge has ruled that Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold must stand trial, rejecting his request that he throw the case out of court.

Retired Howard County Judge Dennis Sweeney ruled Monday that a jury trial will begin Sept. 4.

Leopold was indicted March 2 on charges of misusing his police detail for personal and political gain.

Leopold's defense attorney, Bruce L. Marcus, tells The Baltimore Sun said he had not read the ruling and could not comment
