Conservative blogger Joe Albero has posted the picture of a pill bottle on his web site with the name of County Council at-large candidate Laura Mitchell on the label.
The drug is for methadone.
There is no text except for a post line that reads “The Laura Mitchell Smoking Gun.”
Mitchell, who was elected to the Salisbury City Council in 2011, confirmed the authenticity of the bottle and said she briefly took the drug to treat migraine headaches.
She went onto to tell the Salisbury Daily Times that the post violates her health privacy even though Albero is not bound by the federal restrictions on disclosing someone’s personal health information.
The Daily Times observes that Albero’s latest expose raises questions about how he got the photo and his decision to use a public figure’s medical history as “ammunition against her.”
Albero also lost a mayoral bid in Salisbury against incumbent Jim Ireton.
