African American Leaders Call for Probe Into Delaware Police Shooting

Rev. Donald Morton, Perfected Life Church Facebook.com

African American leaders, activists and community members gathered at a rally yesterday where a 27-year old man came to rest after being shot by a New Castle County police officer.

They are calling for an investigation into the fifth police-involved shooting this year.

Those attending were members of the Black Clergy Consortium, the Interfaith Coalition Building Blocks of Wilmington as well as state and local branches of the NAACP.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that Rev. Donald Morton, pastor of Perfected Life church and president of the Black Clergy Consortium told the gathering, "We've got loss of life and a bade is behind it."

They said there were too many questions about the shooting of James Green near New Castle.

They called on New Castle County Executive Paul Clark to order a thorough investigation.

Clark was at the rally and said he wanted to await the police investigation before making a decision about what he does next.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that County Police Chief Colonel W. Scott McLaren accompanied Clark but had no comment.

The paper reports that there is a growing call for a federal investigation.

There have been about four police-involved shootings a year in Delaware.
