Some $70-thousand has been raised on Maryland’s Lower Shore for victims of Hurricane Harvey that struck Texas and Louisiana.

The effort was led by the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore which donated $5-thousand of its own money in matching funds.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the money will be distributed by the Greater Houston Foundation’s Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

The Eastern Shore foundation president Erica Joseph told the paper that it was gratifying to see local residents come together to help those out in the aftermath of the storm.

With Hurricane Irma striking Florida the foundation pledged to continue its relief efforts as hurricane season sets in.
