A new poll finds that 63 percent of Delawareans still support the death penalty.
The survey was carried out in mid-April by Public Policy Polling of just under 600 Delaware residents.
The company was hired by the Delaware Center for Justice which is seeking to end the death penalty in the First State.
The survey found that 34 percent opposed or were somewhat opposed to capital punishment.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that Eugene Young, the advocacy director for the Delaware Center for Justice, sent out an email that said support for the death penalty dropped dramatically when alternatives were provided.
The survey comes as Delaware lawmakers consider repeal of the death penalty.
