$4.1 Million Mansion Demolished in Rehoboth Beach

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) - A bay-front mansion in Rehoboth Beach has been demolished less than 20 years after it was built.

The Wilmington News Journalreports the 10-bedroom mansion was demolished this spring after it was sold to the family of Alan Levin, director of the Delaware Economic Development Office.

The family says they bought the site for the land, but the existing house did not fit their lifestyle. The family brought the house last year for $4.13 million through a company called JE Real Estate LLC. The home was built in the late 1990s.

Before heading the Delaware Economic Development Office, Levin was chief executive of the 76-store Happy Harry's drugstore chain started by his father. It was sold to Walgreen Co. in 2006.

The family donated the mansion's furnishings to charity.
