DEER PARK, Md. (AP) - The Maryland Department of Commerce is giving Garrett County no deadline for repaying a nearly $2.9 million loan that saved a manmade whitewater paddling course from financial failure.
The Garrett County Commissioners are voting Monday night on a revised agreement allowing them to repay the loan with any cash left over from operations of the Adventure Sports Center International after the county covers its own expenses.
The county took over the center in 2012 after the nonprofit owner defaulted on bank loans.
Commerce Department spokeswoman Karen Glenn Hood says the state purchased the note to avoid foreclosure on the project.
The recirculating course opened in 2007 in McHenry. The canoe and kayak whitewater slalom world championships were held there last year.
