Residents and businesses in New Castle County will see a 15 percent hike in their property tax bill.
The Wilmington News Journal reports that there will be a 7.5 percent increase in 2019 followed by another in 2020.
The measure approved by the county council is part of $325 million in operating and construction budgets in the upcoming fiscal year starting July 1st.
Supporters of the increase said it was needed to cover services ranging from parks and police to libraries.
Last month the county council also approved a 12 percent hike in sewer fees for residents that would result in an annual average increase of $36.
